DECT is known as the radio standard for wireless telephony. So it isn’t surprising that experts of this communication technology have also made the standard usable for the smart home. An important feature for smart home devices is that they are very energy efficient. For such purpose was developed the standard DECT ULE (Ultra Low Energy). DECT ULE is using the frequency range 1.88 to 1.9 MHz, which is therefore less occupied by other systems. Manufacturers of smart home devices with this standard are predominantly manufacturers of telecommunications. The respective product range is very different. Cross-manufacturer compatibility is still being worked on. This standard is coordinated in the ULE Alliance, which was founded in 2013 by 40 manufacturing companies. Whether DECT ULE can cover all the applications of a smart home depends on the respective needs. For special solutions, it certainly makes sense to consider this system, since a base is usually available already.
